BASH Questions and Answers (Thanks Mark for the write up!)
Tell us all about the Baltimore Musical Improv BASH. How might you describe your the BASH to someone who knows nothing about improv?
The BMI BASH is a gathering of the best & brightest musical improvisers from across the Baltimore region! Featuring a two hour variety show of live improvised musical comedy, a social mixer, and an open JAM, this is the one event in Baltimore to bring new musical improvisers, experienced performers, fans, and community members all together in one place. If you’ve never heard of musical improv or if you think you’ve seen it all, this is the event for YOU!
For the more knowledgeable improv crowd, what do you hope they’ll take away from the BASH.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about musical improv and the BMI community, socialize with folks you’ve met in classes or workshops, see a performance from recent Musical Improv 101 graduates, and watch a fully improvised musical from some of the BMI community’s most experienced musical improvisers. No matter your experience level or familiarity with the Baltimore Musical Improv community, the BASH is a great place to learn from performances, network with the community, enjoy a fun-filled afternoon, and provide input on what you might like to see next from BMI.
Why the BASH?
Thanks to the growing Baltimore Musical Improv community there are more and more opportunities to watch, socialize around, and learn musical improv–though rarely (if ever) are we able to gather the many participants in the BMI community in one place at one time to celebrate all that the community has to offer. Rather than just a 25 minute musical set as part of another show, or just a workshop aimed at aspiring musical improvisers, or just a social event catered to those looking to socialize, the BMI BASH combines all of these into one grand all-musical showcase and social event! The BASH is also an opportunity for musical improvisers of all levels–recent 101 graduates, up-and-coming stars, and veteran performers–to share one stage, all for the love of the musical improv.
Does BASH stand for anything?
Officially, no. BASH is not an acronym. (Unofficially I think of it as the BMI “Big A** SHow” )
